Free calling services based on access Number are back in Business. Due to issues with local Telecom providers AllFreeCalls.net and Yak4ever had been closed down. There are more VOIP companies exploring this option to make some money off this route.
Free calls within Canada only are being offered by Canadian free long distance provider, ZeroCents. It seems for me though I am not a Canadian that calling within Canadian provinces is like a long distance call, so you will be charged lot more than calling within your local area.
E.g. I would be charged more than a local Toronto call if I am in Toronto and want to call Vancouver.
To reduce this “extra” cost by routing your call through their VOIP network was promised by ZeroCents. Their money making policy is simple. Audio advertisement of 5 seconds at the start of your call is being run by them. The list of access number and cities you can call via their VOIP network is not mentioned on their website.
Now consumers will have more choice as these services mushrooming in the VOIP Market. But still there is lack of innovation amongst providers, also as more competition comes up these services will fade away. When it comes to access number based Free international calls then AllFreeCalls.net and Yak4ever were really one of the best services. You could call more than 40 countries with their services. When it comes to calling within Canada with access number probably wouldn’t make me happy.
If fellow Canadians can see any value in this Free Long Distance Calling Service for Canada probably they could enlighten me. Rather I strongly suggest a better service called ViaTalk Free, a Phone to Phone service. It enables you to make free calls to USA and Canada from USA.

Philippines is one of those countries where the telecom rules and regulations are not only well controlled but regulated on timely basis to avoid any kind of added advantage to service providers. In simple words I mean to say that in Philippines you won’t be able to make free or cheap calls to USA or Canada using you mobile or fixed line and in any case if you try, the rates will be equivalent to the market rates. But there is ray of hope since the government has collaborated with Pacific network Inc., to start its own Toll Free Service in Manila. There is no much information available about this toll free service but inquiry about this can be made at the local authority office.
There is not much information in terms of calling but its been know that this Toll Free Service which is likely to be based on VOIP will offer you free access number, from which you can make free calls. For time being, only USA and Canada is accessible for free calling. Also there is no much information on how long you can talk but its seems that it is almost good for a satisfactory talk. Since this service is on the building stage it is not even knows whether it has access to the toll free numbers from outside and then dial out. And if this is the case then it will be a better offer.
This free calling service to USA and Canada will be available till February 2009 and the location of this Toll-Free booth is on the ground floor of the City Hall building and the timings for the public are from 8 am to 4 pm.
The people of Philippines can give this a try and pray that this service holds true to their expectation of the government. For this will be a new beginning for the people of Philippines.
